Jos\u00e9 Manuel Barbeito Varela\u00a0<\/strong>is Senior Lecturer in English at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). His research focuses mainly on identity and subjectivity in the English literary tradition. Along this line, he has published on writers such as Milton, Swift, Austen, W. B. Yeats, James Joyce, or Salman Rushdie. He has authored titles like\u00a0Las Br\u00f6nte y su mundo\u00a0<\/em>(2006),\u00a0El individuo y el mundo moderno: el drama de la identidad en siete cl\u00e1sicos de la literatura brit\u00e1nica<\/em>\u00a0(2004). He has edited\u00a0In Mortal Shakespeare. Radical Readings<\/em>\u00a0(1989),\u00a0Paradise Lost: The Word, the words, the world<\/em>\u00a0(1991);\u00a0Modernity, Modernism, Postmodernism<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(2000);\u00a0Feminism, Aesthetics and Subjectivity: Essays on Women and Culture in Early Twentieth Century British Literature<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(2001); and coedited the volume\u00a0National Identities and European Literatures<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(2008). Outside the field of English Studies, he has published the chapter \u201cSpanish and Spanish-American Poetics and Criticism,\u201d in\u00a0Cambridge History of Literary Criticism<\/em>, vol. IX<\/a>\u00a0(2001). He currently studying the work of Alain Badiou and has written \u2018Derrida, Badiou, and the Possibilities and Limits of Spectrality\u2019 (accepted for publication in Badiou Studies<\/em>).
