\u00a0Constante Gonz\u00e1lez Groba\u00a0<\/strong>is Professor of American literature at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin. He edited parallel texts in English and Spanish of William Dean Howells\u2019s <\/span>Criticism and Fiction<\/em> and Frank Norris\u2019s <\/span>The Responsibilities of the Novelist,<\/em> as well as a critical edition of Kate Chopin\u2019s <\/span>The Awakening <\/em>aimed at Spanish college students<\/span>.<\/em> He is the author of a book on the novels of Carson McCullers, in Spanish, and has written essays and book chapters on Herman Melville, Carson McCullers, Stephen Crane, Lee Smith, Lillian Smith, Elizabeth Madox Roberts, Bobbie Ann Mason, Ellen Glasgow, Harper Lee, <\/span>Colson Whitehead, Ron Rash<\/span>, and others. His latest book is <\/span>On Their Own Premises: Southern Women Writers and the Homeplace<\/em> (Universitat de Val\u00e9ncia, 2008). He edited the book <\/span>Hijas del Viejo Sur: La mujer en la literatura del Sur de los Estados Unidos <\/em>(Universitat de Val\u00e9ncia, 2012), to which he contributed an introduction and two chapters, as well as <\/span>Unsteadily Marching On: The US South in Motion<\/em> (Universitat de Val\u00e9ncia, 2013), a collection of essays by American and European southernists. He co-authored the book Pathologizing Black Bodies: The Legacy of Plantation Slavery<\/em> with Ewa Luczak and Urszula Niewiadomska-Flis (Routledge, 2023).. He has led competitive research projects about women in southern fiction, southern fiction and civil rights, and southern autobiography, and race and the body in US fiction and film.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
